MAPAMAX, a family affair
There are three of us: Mum, Dad and Maxime, our daughter. We’re a family that, as our careers take us, moves house regularly and grows attached to wherever we settle.
MAPAMAX was actually thought up by Maxime: MAman, PApa, MAXime. We’d been looking for a name for a while, and she came up with the obvious choice.
Our story begins in Villard-de-Lans. We’d long dreamt of having a holiday home there. When the right opportunity came along, we seized it. After extensive renovation work, Le Simone was born.
Why Simone? It all goes back to Maxime again. When she was little, she heard the name Nelson Mandela on the radio and asked us who he was. We explained it simply: a man who fought for his beliefs and helped change the world. A sort of hero. But which heroine could we hold up as an example to show her that anything is possible? Several names sprang to mind, and at the same time, we were looking for a name for Villard. After a quick poll amongst our friends and family, Le Simone stood out, as a tribute to Simone Veil, but also to Simone de Beauvoir.
A few years later, we moved to the Hauts-de-France region and fell in love with the Baie de Somme and the Baie d’Authie. Then we discovered this villa nestled amongst the pine trees at Quend-Plage. A stroke of luck, though perhaps a little self-induced… For us, it was a sign. We set off on a new adventure. It would become Le Rosa, in honour of Rosa Parks.
After a year-and-a-half spent in Sweden, we returned to France with a new project: the Drôme Provençale. We know the region well, having lived in Lyon for a long time. We love its stone villages, its lavender fields, its sunshine, its authenticity and its atmosphere, which is better preserved than in some parts of the South.
This time, we’ve found an old stone house and the work is… crazy.
